This narrative review investigated adverse events (AEs) in trauma resuscitation, their contributing factors, and methods to mitigate them, with a focus on trauma video review (TVR) using the Trauma Black Box®. The study explored various assessment tools and strategies for identifying and analyzing AEs within trauma care systems, which have been shown to significantly reduce mortality rates and improve post-injury outcomes. Specifically, the review highlighted the effectiveness of tools such as STAT Taxonomy and T-NOTECHs in enhancing AE identification and trauma team assessment. 

The review found that TVR, when integrated with standardized tools, shows promise as a valuable method for improving trauma team performance, detecting AEs, and enhancing patient safety. This integration offers promising avenues for real-time AE quantification. However, challenges remain in ensuring consistent reporting and incorporating new approaches into existing protocols. The study concludes by emphasizing the need for future research to address these challenges, focus on connecting trauma team performance with patient outcomes, and develop sustainable TVR programs to further enhance trauma care and patient safety.
