Similar to an airplane's black box, this technology records video, audio, patient vital signs, and information from surgical devices. Initially, some operating room staff were apprehensive about the technology being used against them; however, reassurance about data privacy and its focus on quality improvement helped integrate the system into hospital culture. Surgical Safety Technologies, the device's manufacturer, ensures patient and staff anonymity by blurring faces in the recordings.
