Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital is piloting innovative OR Black Box® technology in two of its operating rooms, designed to capture critical data during surgeries to enhance quality and efficiency. This technology functions similarly to an airplane’s black box, recording audio, video, and various physiological and environmental factors. By anonymizing the data, it allows the surgical team to analyze performance and identify areas for improvement without compromising patient or staff identities.

Chief of Surgery Douglas Smink highlights the importance of this initiative in advancing patient safety, emphasizing the surgical team's collaborative effort in delivering high-quality care. The gathered data will be relayed to Surgical Safety Technologies for analysis, providing insights into team performance and potential safety threats. Ultimately, this technology aims to streamline workflows and promote a culture of continuous learning within the operating room.
